The rapper, real name Curtis Jackson, has been accused of breaking down the door to a bedroom where the woman – who has a child with 50 Cent, and had a three-year relationship with him – was hiding, then kicking her.
Los Angeles police were called to the home in 23 June, where they found the woman and the baby. 50 Cent had already left. Officers estimated the cost of damage caused during the altercation to be around $7,100 (£4,700).
LA city attorney Mike Feuer said 50 Cent had been charged with domestic violence and vandalism, carrying maximum penalties of five years in jail, and $46,000 (£30,000) in fines. "We will continue to look out for the safety of all victims of domestic violence and seek justice for the alleged crimes," Feuer said.
50 Cent, who is 37, has made no formal comment on the incident, but tweeted: "I'm in the car I haven't been arrested." He will be formally charged in court in Los Angeles on 22 July.
