A teenage boy has been charged with murder after an 18 year old died in Liverpool in the early hours of Saturday.

James McVey died after an alleged incident outside Dunnys Social Club, Stalmine Road in Walton, around 12.20am on Saturday 9 October.

A 15 year old boy from the L11 area of Liverpool has been charged with murder and appeared before Liverpool Magistrates on Monday morning.

James McVey's mum and dad, Tracey and Jamie, pay tribute to James on behalf of his family and friends:

"We know that James is gone, but at the moment it doesn't feel real, we're all in shock and completely devastated.

His mum, Tracey, said: "It's the little things that remind us of him, one of his friends called round last night and we had to do a double take as we thought it was James coming in from a day's work. This morning, his dad needed to get a belt from James' wardrobe and while he was looking through his things he found a box of chocolate fingers, stashed away so his dad didn't eat them!

"James was a great son and loving brother to Connor. It's Connor's 12th birthday tomorrow but I don't think he'll feel like celebrating. Although they tormented each others like most brothers do, they were like best mates and loved nothing more that a kick-about in the garden with 'Red' our dog or playing on the X-Box. James had even ordered Connor's birthday card in readiness, he really was a thoughtful lad.

"Like his dad, James was training to become an electrician and had started his apprenticeship when his was 16. He always knew he was going to follow in his dad's footsteps, it was just a natural progression for him and he had even passed some of his exams while he was still in school."

His dad, Jamie added: "James lived for football and not only supported Liverpool, but also played Saturday league football. I managed the team and last season our team won the Merseyside Christian league. This year we'd just moved to Zingari league and James had started his own 7-a-side league. I know that all of his team-mates went down last night to play in his honour and after the match they went down to Stalmine Road to pay their respects. They've also told me that they'll be retiring his number 9 shirt."

"We couldn't wish for a better set of friends for James, there are too many for us to name them all but his friends Christopher and David had known him since nursery and they had all gone to school together in the area. This year James took his first holiday with the lads. It was only a week but even then we couldn't wait for him to get back. He really enjoyed himself but when he came home, he said it was too long to be away from us.

"We'll all miss James more than we can put down in words. James was loved by everyone he knew and we would like to thank all our friends and family for the friendship and love they have given to James over the years and the support they have shown us during this difficult time. Good night and good bless, Crouchy. You'll never walk alone."

Detectives investigating James' murder are continuing to appeal for information. Officers are still urging witnesses to come forward and are now particularly keen to speak with anyone who was in one of the restaurants and take-aways in the Rice Lane area between 12am and 12.30am to contact police. They may have information that could be vital to the investigation.

Officers would appeal to anyone who has any information is asked to contact 0151 777 4564 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
